Killer Demolition Party @ Abandoned Village Cinemas Shithole.

25 11 2007

As by the title, you can tell there’s going to be some hating in this post. But before we get to that: The Glimmers and Boys Noize killed it. I have to say, I’m not the hugest fan of the style coming out of Germany etc. right now — they like their tracks a bit harder than I can handle and their cuts are extremely, well, tight. Some of the stuff sounded actually quite minimal, big contrast from the last Killer party. But it was awesome.

High point would have to be The Glimmers building up an absolutely flawless set which blew my expectations out of the water. Next up was Boys Noize, who took the stage in place of Switch (who never materialised in the end), and dropped tracks from Oi Oi Oi to within an inch of their combined lives and some other favourites. Then he accidentally pressed eject or something — and his set stepped up a level. Under pressure, the producer, remixer and label-boss built up an awesome live rework of ‘Smack my Bitch Up’, then dropping ‘Phantom’, my new favourite song.

Now the rant begins. The venue was shit. In the side-room the cinema seats were still in place and this made for an absolutely shit setup, with the dance-floor 20 metres away from the booth. There was only one entrance to the main-room, which made for 1hr waits to get back in between 11:30 and 1pm — meaning there were people pissing, vomiting and smoking everywhere in the actual cinema. Disgusting. And it was really hot.

And as an aside — this happened after I left — but apparently they told Boys Noize to keep going for another 2 HOURS because Switch wouldn’t be coming after all. I don’t blame him.

[/end rant]

Boys Noize (myspace) plus The Glimmers and of course Switch will be gracing Melbourne with their presence tonight for another infamous Killer party — hopefully as good as the last. I’m looking forward to my legs falling off, a la iheartcomix, and enjoying the best Germany has to offer.

In another part of the world, the Kitsune Maison 5 (myspace) launch party is going down tonight (Japan I think). I haven’t been able to find a tracklist anywhere, but am eagerly anticipating another installment of what has to be my favourite compilation series by a million miles.

Track: Boys Noize – & Down (Teenage Bad Girl Remix) (listen).
