Obligatory Louis La Roche post.

3 05 2008

Everyone knows the story with this kid so I won’t go there, or discuss the merits of his first offering under this moniker. In terms of emulating ‘French Touch’ and causing a storm, it’s pretty adequate, so we’ll leave it at that.

The real news is that Louis is the latest young upstart to jump aboard the NLLR Mixtape franchise, his offering available here on Fader. No love is ever lost when you’ve got Lee Williams pumping mixes into your inbox twice a week, and Mr La Roche’s mix is no exception. Nice track selection, the inclusion of Like Woah!’s ‘Oh I Like’ being a highpoint for me, not an obvious choice for a filter house mix.

Also check out Louis’ EP Peach which you can download free at Fader as well.

NLLR Mixtape: Kap10Kurt.

I’m really digging having Lee Norman Williams as a friend on Facebook — plenty of NLLR love in my inbox. Seriously though, NLLR have been putting out one or two mixtapes a week for a while now, and this latest Kap10Kurt (official) one is just the latest in a long line of good, good stuff. But I’m repping this one in particular for the seminal collection of tracks which really get me pumped — starting off with a Grafton Primary (myspace) banger and working through all that’s good, synthy and fresh in electro right now.

This is a total repost, but this new Cryptonites (myspace) mix deserves all the attention it can get. Put out through No Love Lost Records as part of their ‘Mixtape Project’ series, the mix is pure euro-electro genius. Blending far more tracks and samples, the duo’s style is definitely evolving, with influences like Boys Noize and The Glimmers evident in track selection and cuts. Of course there’s the obligatory Prodigy track thrown in for good measure, and some of the Cryptonites’ own stuff, which sounds incredibly good.
