Justice win Grammy.

So Justice won a Grammy for their remix of ‘Electric Feel’.

Of course they deserve it — after the last few years they’ve had they deserve every accolade they can get. Especially the one which shows they’re indelibly written into the American psyche.

But was this really the best remix of the year?

Damn.

So I deleted all the cookies in Firefox for some reason, and now I can’t get into Tumblr. My awesome, beloved Tumblr. And yes, I know you can recover your password by typing in your email but do you think I can remember by own freakin’ email address? I must have typed it in wrong when I signed up because I’ve tried them all and it always says ‘no account found’. This is bad.

In other news, a while ago Justice did the Dior Homme fashion show, and the soundtrack was banging so the blogosphere went nuts. What’s ever more banging is this remix Sundtrak put up by Kaxe (blog). It reorganizes some of the elements to make the audible experience more like a dance track. I dig.

Track: Justice – Planisphère (Kaxe Remix) (listen).

Gameboy Synth Sounds.

11 08 2008

Yes, that is an extremely shitty video, and the sound is not as impressive as Justice working their multiple plugins in Ableton… but it still is kind of cool.

I think I’ve got an old Gameboy Pocket around here somewhere — time to get out the soldering iron?

EDIT: The Gameboy runs an app called LSDJ, which is apparently very hard to get in cartridge form these days.

Justice = Major Gearwhores.

8 08 2008

So I was perusing Asian Dan’s recent post about Justice’s Dior Homme set, looking for a decent rip, when I noticed these pics:

Yes, that’s right. Justice rock not one, but THREE Jazz Mutant Lemur Pads (the midi controller du jour if you know what I mean), the usual MacBook Pro and, as if that wasn’t enough, a Korg Zero8 and MicroControl. How all that is necessary, when Daft Punk only had two Behringer BCR2000s (I know they had 4 moogs as well, we’re talking midi controllers here), is beyond me.

It’s a bit of a change from their Electric Proms setup, but it looks amazing.

Wow, this is cool.

Apparently Justice have teamed up with uber-cool fashion house Surface to Air – a series of leather jackets and pants are the results. Only 150 of each will be made, going on sale in June. Not exactly summerwear, but worth it for the nostalgia.

Justice – Phantom Pt II.

31 03 2008

There are some really good fake clips for Justice’s ‘Phantom Pt II’  floating around. Some even manage to convince me they’re real, others don’t. But they’re still a good fun watch.

Not so, according to a few Kidz by Colette readers, who apparently don’t appreciate being led astray where Justice videos are concerned.

This was from ‘Alex R’ on the comments page:

This is a fake, just like the clip with the birthday party. Kidz, you would be very nice to stop mistaking everybody all the time. Cuz you actually know that this is not the official clip (anyway there won’t be any official clip for Phatom Part. II). That’s probably why you didn’t event write anything.

And then this from ‘Peu importe’:

I totally agree with Alex R.

Kidz mistakes people by writting “Justice Phantom II” without any additional informations.

Kidz, even if you make a lot of spelling error, you could give more explanations when you post something. Because what you’re doing is misinformation (deliberate)

Thanks to make the necessary arrangements to avoid misinformation

Mashed: Waters of Nazareth.

I’m not going to lie – I still love Justice’s ‘Waters of Nazareth’. This is actually a problem though, because after over two years most people just plain don’t. Luckily, the track readily lends itself to mashes, both simple and complex, and any number of on the fly combinations can be concocted to satisfy my need to play it and the punters’ need for new tunes.

My most recent mash involves JF’s ‘Retox’, a newish single with a huge breakbeat and raverish beeping melody. I think it pairs quite nicely with the Erol Alkan re-edit of ‘Waters’. You be the judge.

Track: JF feat. Smokescream – Retox (w Justice – Waters of Nazareth (Erol Alkan Durr Durrr Re-Edit)) (listen).

Justice – Phantom Pt II video.

Um… this ain’t So_me, but I still think it’s pretty rad.

So_me the secret to the Good Life.

‘If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em’ must be Kanye’s new maxim — if the video for his new single is anything to go by.

Since his now infamous onstage outburst when Justice scored the award for best video ahead of ‘Touch the Sky’ back in 2006, Kanye has sampled Daft Punk and, most recently, recruited Ed Banger artiste extraordinaire So_me to direct the clip for ‘Good Life’. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, So_me’s talents are undeniable, and the clip would be a surefire award-winner (if ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ hadn’t already been released).

But I guess that’s what Kanye has been going for. It’s hard to not wonder whether his self-professed love for ‘D.A.N.C.E.’ is actually a thinly-veiled love of awards which he thinks he ought to win.

If anything, Kanye’s setting himself up for another surefire loss in the best video category, which will be hilarious to watch.
