Whitest Boy Alive.

28 01 2009

Alright, so I’ve been a bit AWOL since my last two posts, which were decidedly boring and geeky. But I’ve got a tiny backlog of artists/music to post about so here goes.

I’ve already posted about Whitest Boy Alive (official) on my other blog — they do have a disarmingly beautiful website — and it’s a beauty which translates into their music. This is what I think post-electro will sound like. Every band member plays a real instrument. The songs are so stunningly simple in contrast to the overlayered and distorted sounds we’ve become accustomed to. And yet they seem to possess all the more power as a result.

If this is what 2009 will sound like then I look forward to it.

Waves At Night did a nice little piece on WBA a while back, with a crapload of mp3s, so I’m not going to try and emulate that. I was interested in a few of the comments which suggested that WBA at Nevereverland and The Corner was the best show of 2008, and possibly rivalled Daft Punk for some of the ‘Wavers — big call. But anyway, here’s a song. Yeah it’s a remix, but seriously, if this doesn’t make you want to hear the originals and buy both records then you’re off the wagon.

Track: Whitest Boy Alive – Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix) (listen).

Incidentally this may well be my most favourite Fred Falke remix of all time, if not my choice of 2008.

Hell yes: Fred Falke.

Word just in, jsquared2, after a hugely successful Felix Cartal lineup which blew my mind, are bringing out Fred Falke (myspace). Yes, that’s right, the king of filter-house and the original French touch sound, will be within our shores. Dates will be around 4 April, nothing more specific is out.

I’m so pumped.

To get you pumped too, here’s an old mix from Chris Lambrou & Emad which features, you guessed it, some mad filter house. Tracklist in the comments.
