Whither Cryptonites?

kryptonite

Not so long ago Cryptonites (myspace) were smashing out track after track for their forthcoming Hands of God EP. Well, now it’s here and you can buy it on Beatport; but I was sort of left wondering what the guys were up to in 2009?

Well, first up they put on a banging Christmas mix in December, which you can grab from their myspace.

Then it seems their killer track ‘Can’t Give You Up’ got the remix treatment from Kill the Noise, sending it into club land with sweeping filters and a high-hat which just won’t quit.

Track: Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up (Kill the Noise Remix) (listen).

More recently they’ve been touring the crap out of Europe, the evidence being some stunning pictures on their facebook fan page. Needless to say, I think a visit downunder for these two is long overdue — it’s just a question of who will bring them out. Killer? Jsquared?

Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up, remix competition results.

3 06 2008

A little while back I posted about Cryptonites‘ (myspace) track ‘Can’t Give You Up’, which the duo had released in component parts for free. The idea was to give producers the world over the chance to remix it… and the results are now in. I’m pumped to see the comp had such a big response, over 40 entries (!) and names like Kill the Noise (myspace), Fantastadon (myspace) and Are You Serious? (myspace) in the top 5.

Here are the top 5 and, in case you’re wondering, the judging criteria was simply: ‘would we play it in a set?’.

Track: Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up (Kill The Noise Remix) (listen).

Track: Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up (Sawitzki Remix) (listen).

Track: Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up (Are You Serious Remix) (listen).

Track: Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up (Fantastadon Remix) (listen).

Track: Cryptonites – Can’t Give You Up (Alfa Remix) (listen).

And because so many of the entries were still very cool, Cryptonites have uploaded a bunch of them for download, links after the jump.

New York.

I love New York. Sadly, I’ve only been there once.

There’s something almost artistic about urbanisation at its most advanced stage – where its so prolific that its a part of the psyche of all the people who live there.

Abandoned Bicycles of New York is a collection of photographs of – you guessed it – bicycles found lying around in various states of decay and repair. And it just captures the place so well.

Bonus: The Bianca Story – Paper Piano (Cryptonites Remix) (listen).

Oizo // Cryptonites.

Spot the odd one out — one of these dude’s drops electro-bombs of nuclear proportions… the other just wishes he did. But seriously, facial hair hilarity aside, Mr Oizo’s new single ‘Z’ has been getting reviews all over the internets so I’m sure intrepid readers will have already checked it out. Personally, I’m more interested in this guy’s cinematography and soundtrack work. Steak blew me away, and although like Toof I can’t understand French, I always appreciate a good soundtrack, especially when it’s collaborative.

Also, frequent Alblog fodder Cryptonites (myspace) have finally seen electronic release of their debut EP Hands of God. To celebrate, they’ve sent bloggers a remix of Coldplay’s ‘Violet Hill’, which is more than decent. Get the EP on beatport or itunes, the album art alone would be worth a 12″ copy (if only I could find one).

Cryptonites remix competition.

Back with another Cyptonites (myspace) post.

Just got a hot little biscuit in my inbox informing me that the duo’s banging track ‘Can’t Give You Up’ will not be seeing official release, due to Prince withholding sample rights. Instead, the track is available for free download, in extended mix and Geometri (myspace) remix varieties, and budding remixers can also download the component parts for entry into the comp. Best five remixes will be splashed across the next some time in the near future.

Cryptonites new EP.

How can I do another post on Cryptonites less than four days later? Possibly because in a post titled ‘Cryptonites new EP’ I totally forgot to mention the record at all! While I got carried away with their January mix, I neglected to mention that the Hands of God EP will be out on Destruction Music (myspace) in April. Tracklist a little bit like this:

1. Hands of God
2. Zodiac
3. Cruzaders

Track: Cryptonites – Glow (listen).

There’s nothing hotter on the electro scene than a nice two-piece production duo, and right now Cryptonites (myspace) are white hot. They have a fat new mix out (for January) and an EP on the way and I, for one, could not be more pumped. I have been digging these guys’ mixes for nigh on six months now, and their productions are nothing short of pumping. Combining the pure electric sounds of a good Bag Raiders breakdown with the distorted beats of Boys Noize or Strip Steve, their originas some how manage to top their insane remixes (of which there are several).

I sincerely hope these two rock Australian shores soon — I could see it being a massive night under the jsquared2 or Killer! moniker.

This is a total repost, but this new Cryptonites (myspace) mix deserves all the attention it can get. Put out through No Love Lost Records as part of their ‘Mixtape Project’ series, the mix is pure euro-electro genius. Blending far more tracks and samples, the duo’s style is definitely evolving, with influences like Boys Noize and The Glimmers evident in track selection and cuts. Of course there’s the obligatory Prodigy track thrown in for good measure, and some of the Cryptonites’ own stuff, which sounds incredibly good.

Check this new video of electro superstar-duo Cryptonites, which I spotted on their myspace. Their stuff has been popping up everywhere lately, including the most recent Streetparty podcast episode. Speaking of which, I’ve mentioned them like four times without once pointing out that as well as smashing up killer sets, they also produce some proper-sounding tracks.

While I was on their Murdoch-space I also couldn’t help but notice they’ve given alblog some love — citing this old quote. Thanks guys!
