Somewhere between sort of Frenchy-electro and hardcore German Boys Noize stab-beats there exists a cruncy, squelchy sort of tune which I’m so into right now. Strip Steve (myspace) does it, Dim (myspace) has been known to, as do Bloody Beetroots (myspace) on occasion. But away from those big names, some uber-cool producers are throwing it down in their own, inspired style.
We’ve already heard from QG (myspace), but this dude absolute owns this style — in his remixes and productions.
Electrorash (or bec, rather) were kind enough to post the Island 9 (myspace) remix of Van She’s ‘Sex City’ a while back. That absolutely cained. I mean, listen to the opening loop — that is a beat which will grind your braincells to a pulp. And then it just gets better, with plenty of Danger-ish filter sweeps etc.
In a similar vein is the now classic, brutal, Choreo (myspace) remix of SebastiAn’s ‘Dog’. Talk about broken, smashed, syncopated beats.

So yeah, these guys seem to take their inspiration from all sorts of places, whether it’s metal or industrial or trance. In many ways, it’s the antithesis of the filter-house revival powered by Falke/Menace/Lifelike/Miami Horror. But that doesn’t mean these tracks eschew epic breakdowns and melodies. Rather, they employ them — but shroud them in a haze of distortion, chaos and volume.
So in conclusion, I’ll leave you with a track from the guy who I believe started/payed a debt to this stuff:
Track: NIN – Great Destroyer (listen).
